Conservation Initiative

Local Support Starts with Local Discussions

For years, SW Kansas has led the state in Agriculture. Over the years, there have been many changes in technology and farming practices, but more importantly, adapting to the changing effects of Mother Nature. As rainfall has become more sporadic and the droughts seem more intense, we benefited from having the Ogallala Aquifer to get us through the dryer times. As we all know, that has caused the region to see steady declines in our water table.

By now, we are all familiar with the news and numerous articles about the legislation aimed at reducing the strain on the aquifer and preserving this vital resource. While we acknowledge the efforts of our local producers in safeguarding the aquifer for future generations and sustaining our communities, it’s clear that a collective effort is needed to maintain our position as a driving force in Kansas agriculture.
